A tutte le scuole partecipanti all’evento “Carlo Acutis, One of Us”

Cari amici,
ad una settimana esatta dall’evento che ci farà incontrare qui a Milano, presi tra i tanti preparativi ancora da completare per rendere indimenticabile questa nostra festa, pure non possiamo non fermarci un attimo, e prenderci un momento per chiederci l’origine di tutta questa bellezza. La bellezza di questa attesa, la bellezza di questo pensarci reciproco.

Certamente, essa risiede nella figura di Carlo.

La storia di Carlo Acutis attraversa la storia della nostra scuola. Con la sua particolare declinazione, ne ha modificato il corso stesso degli eventi, aprendo traiettorie ad oggi ancora imperscrutabili, ma che già avvertiamo come ricche di possibilità, propizie, illuminate dalla grazia.

È stato – con Carlo in vita, seduto al banco o mentre cammina e scherza per i corridoi – uno scambio reciproco, in cui siamo cresciuti insieme, la comunità educante e lo studente, come sempre accade quando questa relazione speciale funziona.

Dopo il 12 ottobre del 2006, il suo venir meno ha reso possibile un “più” e la sua mancanza ha svelato una presenza: quella degli atti quotidiani – a noi allora in gran parte ancora ignoti – di cui erano intessute le sue giornate; quella del suo esempio, discreto ma incisivo, che continua a parlarci, indicandoci la strada capace di rendere unica e piena la vita che viviamo ogni giorno, di renderla stra-ordinaria.

Lungo la traccia delle sue parole ritroviamo così, in un senso vivificato, reso contemporaneo e attuale dalla vita di un giovane del 21. secolo, le parole e le azioni stesse di Sant’Ignazio, il modo per “essere sempre unito a Gesù”, al giorno d’oggi; il significato concreto di quel “a maggior gloria di Dio”, che è un metro con cui valutare la nostra accoglienza del prossimo, specie se meno fortunato; l’invito ad essere “originali e non fotocopie”, che rende in modo plastico l’invito a realizzare pienamente noi stessi, la irripetibile e meravigliosa unicità di ciascuno di noi.

Questo convergere di Carlo e di Ignazio, fino a coincidere in questo o in quel punto, non è però dovuto ad un caso fortuito: la fonte che alimenta la loro anima è la stessa, e grazie a loro anche noi possiamo attingere a quelle acque. Alla fonte dell’Amore.

Dove ci porterà questo incontro con Carlo, non è dato saperlo. Indeterminato nei suoi effetti futuri, esso sprigiona però quotidianamente, da vent’anni a questa parte, i suoi doni quotidiani.

Tra questi doni giunge ora – grande, grandissimo – quello della canonizzazione di Carlo, un evento che farà incontrare ragazzi e ragazze provenienti da tutto il mondo, non solo delle nostre scuole: questo dono è un dono per il mondo.

Dear friends,
Exactly one week before the event that will bring us together here in Milan, caught between the many preparations still to be completed to make our celebration as beautiful as possible, we can’t but pause for a moment and take time to wonder about the origin of all this beauty, of all these gifts. The beauty of this awaiting, the beauty of this mutual thinking about each other.

Certainly, it is Carlo’s figure.

The story of Carlo Acutis runs through the history of our school. With his particular influence, he has changed the very course of the events, opening perspectives and directions that are still inscrutable today, but which we already perceive as rich with possibilities, propitious, lighted up by grace.

It was—with Carlo alive, sitting at his desk or walking and joking in the hallways—a mutual exchange, in which we have grown together, the educational community and the student, as it always happens when this special relationship works effectively.

Since October 12, 2006, his passing has enabled something more, a “plus”, and his absence has revealed a presence: the presence of his daily acts—then largely unknown to us—which interwove his days; of his example, discreet but vivid and effective, which still today speaks to us, showing us the way capable of making the life we live every day unique and full, making it extra-ordinary.

Following the trail of his words, we find in a vivified sense the very words and actions of Saint Ignatius, enlivened and made actual and contemporary by the life of a young person of the 21st century. This is evident in his way of “always be united with Jesus”; the concrete meaning of that quote: “for the greater glory of God”, which is a measure through which we can evaluate how we welcome the others, especially the less fortunate; the invitation to be “originals and not photocopies”, which tangibly conveys the invitation to fully realize ourselves, the unrepeatable and wonderful uniqueness of each of us.

This convergence of Carlo and Ignatius up to their final coincidence on this or that point is not, however, a fortuitous event: the source that nourishes their souls is the same, and thanks to them, we too can draw from those waters. From the source of Love.

Where this meeting with Carlo will lead us is not given to know. Unpredictable in its future effects, it has been spreading its daily gifts for twenty years now.

Among these gifts now comes—great, greatest—the gift of Carlo’s canonization, an event that will bring together young men and women, not only from our schools, but from all over the world: this gift is a gift for the world.
